Windy City Music Theater (Blackbox Studio or not)
September 11, 2017
Mistero Buffo turn the Windy City Music Theater Blackbox Studio into an intimate arena theater!
The stage was surrounded by the audience in all sides. This configuration led to an even more high-energy performance by Panos with the audience more present than any other time! During our three performances in Chicago, the audience became key conductors of the meaning of the performance.
Naturally, the Guillare had to turn his back on some members of the audience in moments. However, all members of the audience could see the performer and had the same distance from him at all times. A new sense of fairness was created. The actor could no longer see all of the members of the audience at once. In that way, he gave up some of his power. More vulnerable than ever, he didn't stand with his back to the wall, trusting the people behind him. I think that we took a step towards a more democratic theater performance where the audience was "heard". As a result, more than any other time, the story of our performance was the story of the experience of these people.
We are really grateful to the Chicago Fringe Festival for the opportunity to explore and expans the limits of our performance!
